Case #85 - Stephen Klassen

$15.00

In case #85, we’re joined by Mr. Stephen Klassen in Ardmore, Oklahoma, USA. Stephen is an outpatient therapist with Integrated Musculoskeletal Care serving the Michelin plant employees and their families, and has also contributed to developing the telehealth services within IMC. Stephen presents a case of a busy professional in a rural area with neck pain who was treated efficiently and effectively with MDT through telehealth, amid questions of trust and skeptism of a "screen-only" approach. With the use of great clinical reasoning, observational skills, and creativity, Stephen provides a thorough, detailed description of how well MDTs can utilize the "show and tell" methods of telehealth to serve those who don't have the time or means to come to your OP clinic.(1hr, 3min, 25sec)

Some great discussion specific to the remote visit including:

There’s certainly some limitations related to administering examination and treatment via a video call but as long as we use some creativity and, with this patient, the alternative as Steve mentioned was, likely no care at all.

Considering the non-compliant patient - we might find there to be some issue at times that could possibly be a bit worse with a tele health situation but Steve views it as an issue with him, the clinician, first and not blaming the patient.

And with re-introducing function - Steven has seen that the value add is very important - if we simply re-iterate what we’ve said before, even if that’s them most important thing for them to be doing - adding some functional activity can help keep them engage and carefully challenge the structures and do it with his oversight.
