Session 032002 with Mark Cheel part 2
Session 032002 with Mark Cheel part 2
In Session 0320-01 and 02 we’re joined by Mr. Mark Cheel of Geelong, Victoria Australia. He works in an emergency department providing a mechanical examination and treatment. In Session 032002 Mr. Mark Cheel presents three patients! First he presents a 40 year old male, a laborer with thigh, leg pain and foot paresthesia with leg weakness who presented to the emergency department. Mark highlights those more serious pathologies important to rule out, considerations guiding the appropriateness of conducting a mechanical exam versus referring on to medical practitioners. He elaborates on how he conducts a proper exam and educates these patients when they’re in distress. (1hr 41min 12 sec)
Amongst other topics Mark shares:
the commonality of serious pathology in the ED setting versus the outpatient physio clinic
the more common serious pathology diagnoses he rules out
the more important neurological deficit he’s found critical to identify and how he establishes those baselines
the data on fractures and predisposing factors increasing the risk
the value in being forthcoming with the patient when more serious pathology is possible
what the three “T”s and the Ottawa Rules are and when they need to be considered
specific considerations which might raise caution related to an infected joint
